Questions to Ask Your Potential Wedding Photographer
  • Does your company have multiple photographers? I am able to request a particular photographer? If I hire him/her, am I guaranteed that they will be the one showing up to shoot my wedding? If yes, can I get that in writing?
  • Is the work that I am seeing all one photographers or is it a compilation of work from more than one photographer?
  • Can I see the most recent past weddings that you have shot? Have you shot any at either of my wedding day venues? Seeing those can give you idea of the shot angle's that you might end up with.
  • Can I have a few references?
  • If you are interested in a specific type of photography, be sure to ask what is their your most popular shooting style? Traditional? Photojournalistic?
  • If you want special effects on your final photos, you should ask if the photographer if they offer such things as making the pictures black & white, or black & white with color only one specific item in the photo. Do they offer phot touch ups or enhancements in B&W's and/or color? If so, are these services included in your packages or do you charge a fee for these?
  • Is color and B/W photography included or is there an extra fee for B/W?
  • How many hours does your package include and do I have an option of adding on more time on the spot if we choose to do that?
  • How many different packages do you offer and how many photographers are included in each?
  • If your packages are not what I am looking for, would you be willing to try to customize a package for me that is within my budget?
  • How will the photographer and the assistants be dressed?
  • How many and what kind of cameras do you use? (Do you have backup equipment if something breaks?) Do you use film based or digital cameras or a combination of both?
  • Do you travel and if so how much are the travel fees? How far do you have to travel before you will charge a travel fee?
  • Do you charge a fee if the wedding and reception are in more than one location? What if we want to go to a third location for pictures? Is there a charge for this?
  • How long does it take to get my proofs back, thank you cards, your finished album, your bridal portrait, etc.? How to you offer the proofs? Do we get the negatives? Will they be on your website or a DVD or a proof book and will there be an extra charge for any of those options?
  • Do you offer only traditional albums or do you have a wide variety of options to choose from including any coffee table style wedding photo books?
  • In case of an emergency or illness, who will shoot my event? Will the photographer have an assistant? How many?
  • What are your booking requirements and what is your cancellation policy? What happens if there is a natural disaster and we have to postpone? Will there be any additional fees? Can I pay with a credit card?
  • Are you willing to work in collaboration with other vendors? i.e.: wedding coordinators, videographers, cake cutters, caterers, etc.
  • Do offer a standard Shot List? Either way, would you mind if I added to it? Will there be extra charges for additional shots?
  • Can I get all of this in writing?......please.
