Before Your Wedding - "Ordering Invitations "

Once you have your guest lists made, be sure to order your invitations by the number of households, not individuals. A list of 500 guests may only be 200 households. Order an extra 25 invitations to cover any extra guests that you forgot to include or for mistakes made while addressing the envelopes.

You should order your invitations four to five months before your wedding date to allow ample time for the addressing process. Mail them six to eight weeks before your wedding date unless you are requesting RSVP’s, then you should mail them ten weeks before your wedding date.

Another suggestion is to address your Thank You notes when you address your invitations. That way after the wedding is over, it will make it a little easier for you when sending out your Thank You notes while settling into your new life together.
